“How are we aware of using the water resources in our world?” Group 1 Water for life, for health! H20 is the most essential to our survival. Water is one of the earth’s most precious resources. Health is one of each person’s most precious resources. A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger signs of dehydration. Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. All the cell and organ functions made up in our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning. Preventing disease Water contributes to health directly. Over 2 million people die of diarrhoeal; 1,5 million are infected with hepatitis A; another million die of malaria. Preventing disease Water plays a key role in the prevention of disease. Improved water quality, sanitation and personal hygiene significantly reduce the spread of these and many other water- related diseases. Preventing disease helps to alleviate Poor health and illness are dreaded by almost everyone. The cycle of poverty. Alleviating poverty. Improving health Safe water, adequate sanitation and hygiene education. Improving health Water – related leisure activities. Water uses for agriculture, for industry - We use water every day - for drinking, for watering our lawns and gardens, for recreation, and for many other uses. - Water is used for irrigation, aquaculture, and for many industrial processes and commercial uses. Our nation's underground and surface waters are vitally important to our everyday life. WATER USES FOR AGRICULTURE It is the largest user of water globally and accounts for about 70 per cent of the total freshwater throughout the world, and the majority of this water is used for irrigation . WATER USES FOR AGRICULTURE Irrigation water use includes water used for growing crops, frost protection, chemical applications, weed control, and other agricultural purposes. The amount of water needed necessary for a few products per unit of consumption. With a growing world population, expected to increase by 2 billion people by the year 2030, agriculture needs to find a way to use less water or to use the water more efficiently. WATER USES FOR INDUSTRY The industries that produce metals, wood and paper products, chemicals, gasoline and oils are major users of water Industrial water use includes water used for fabrication, processing, washing, and cooling, and also includes water used by smelting facilities, petroleum refineries, and industries producing chemical products, food, and paper products Water can be used as a raw material, solvent, coolant, transport agent, and energy source Now that one knows some facts about industrial water use, along with its major uses, it is time to explore some of the concerns regarding freshwater use for industries. What is water scarcity? Imbalances between availability and demand. The degradation of groundwater and surfacewater quality. International conflicts. All contributes to water scarcity. Scarcity often has its roots in water shortage, and it is in the arid and semiarid regions affected by droughts and wide climate variability Why? The world’s water is finite but the numbers of us is growing fast. “The world’s water crisis is simple to understand, if not to solve” Who are effected much? Poor people! Millions of poor people spend hours everyday carrying water. Which solutions to slove? Addressing water scarcity requires at: Local levels. National levels. River basin levels. Global levels. International levels. Thank you for listening!
